The Go Assistant provides
strong tools for publishing documents both on the web and in
documents which support the OLE standard. Complete on-line books
are just a simple editing process away from being a reality.
These books give the reader the same look and feel of the
standard paper Go book, but also include the feature of reviewing
the Go moves directly in the book (the reader simply double
clicks on the diagram and a row of buttons appears allowing the
reader to move through the diagram.) Web sites can include
diagrams such as the ones shown on this site.
Diagrams can be generated with markers as demonstrated in the first diagram. Using stored games and variations, simple board diagrams are quickly generated with the Go Assistant and descriptive game anaylsis can be shared with other Go enthusiasts throughout the Internet.
The first diagram represents the taisha joseki as played by
Yoshio Ishida (W) and Hoshino Toshi (B) in the qualifying round
of the 1971 Honinbo. Toshi played at b allowing Ishida to take
sente from the exchange. The second diagram shows a plausible
variation in which black maintains sente
by taking white's eye
space.
In the actual game, Toshi played at b in the first diagram and
Ishida made simple life in sente. Perhaps Toshi had no chance of
recovering from this mistake.
